No shock DUI Judge backs up California Highway Patrol in alleged "bribe" vs. "bet" scandal

A California DUI judge unsurprisingly refused to dismiss drunk driving charges, finding there was no evidence that the officers’ credibility has been tarnished in any way. He noted that Officer Dustin Wood’s stop of Ohannessian was a “reasonable stop” involving probable cause. He ruled there was probable cause for a California Highway Patrol officer to stop a motorist on suspicion of DUI, during an evidentiary hearing Monday.

The defendant's friend and passenger testified about the traffic stop and accused the CHP cop of asking the driver for money to get them go. “He just asked him much money do you have?” The driver hesitated and then told the CHP officer he had $40.

“There is an ATM right behind you. You can pull out a hundred bucks.”

The DUI cop said it was a bet. On numerous occasions, he makes bets with motorists he stops to gauge a motorist’s ability to be honest about answering questions on how drunk they are or are not.
