San Diego's Speed Traps

To avoid a San Diego California DUI, one of the things you should do is avoid all San Diego Speedtraps. Here's one San Diego California DUI Lawyer's posted list for anyone driving in San Diego, California.

Many times a motorcycle cops will hide at the bottom of the hill in this 25mph speed zone. Traffic frequently flows at around 35-40 through this area, especially downhill. located underneath some trees, speed limit is posted as only 30 MPH (when did they post that, back in the 1950s?!)
speed limit sign hardly visible/noticable at times,
plus there is a downward hill that immediately passes the I-15 entrance on Market St. where many drivers go 40-50 MPH. their radar guns are highly effective, they have recorded my speed earlier then my radar detector, at 4 seconds faster!, the officer even told me that! thats more than enough time to get anyone! Jurisdiction (city, county, etc.): San Diego, California Speed Trap Location: Interstate 15 Nearest Reference Point: State Highway 56 GPS Coordinates: n/a Time of Day: AM Rush Hour Level of Enforcement: High Type of Enforcement: Unknown Date: 2/2007 This may or may not be for speeding, but usually 1 out of 5 times I take this route there is a CHP car (same officer everytime sitting on the I-15 Southbound onramp from Hwy 56. He sits there in the morning on the shoulder of the on ramp, right at the top by the metered red lights. He waits for on ramp car pool lane violations, as well as tickets people for rolling through the light, like me. You cannot see him sitting there as you approach, all of the other cars backed up in the right on ramp lane block him from view. They are usually posted behind a bush which can be too late to slow down when you spot them. I noticed beginning of the month they are there more. Jurisdiction (city, county, etc.): San Diego, California Speed Trap Location: Interstate 5 North Nearest Reference Point: n/a GPS Coordinates: n/a Time of Day: AM Rush Hour Level of Enforcement: Some Type of Enforcement: Radar, Laser Date: 10/2006 CHP has stepped up enforcement of the 65 mph speed limit on the 56 bypass in Carmel Valley, a beautifully smooth and wide bit of highway that invites speeding. I've seen motorcycle officers sitting at the junction between the 5 North and the bypass and also on the right shoulder of the bypass for the past week, this morning there were two of them, and one had someone pulled over. There is a very steep hill and the CHP officer sits in a depression. To stay at the posted limits you must stay on the brakes early and stay on them hard to keep your speed legal due to this hill. The bridge has a downhill incline and you have to brake a lot to keep from going too fast. He sits in a road dip near where Nutmeg St dead-ends, and it's almost impossible to see him until you get to the end of the bridge. Very tricky. There's a spot where motorcycle cops like to sit and tag Eastbound traffic because the road widens slightly, giving them a place to park, and the area is heavily shaded by trees. At the bottom of the hill a motorcycle policeman or two stand behind parked cars with a radar gun. It is a long hill so it is easy to build up speed beyond the 35mph posted. Jurisdiction (city, county, etc.): San Diego, California Speed Trap Location: State Highway 52 Nearest Reference Point: 805 US Highway GPS Coordinates: n/a Time of Day: AM Rush Hour Level of Enforcement: Moderate Type of Enforcement: Radar Date: 5/2007 Officer is waiting on side of road or in bushy median area with Radar/Laser gun for traffic from the 805 north merging to the 52 east. Every morning there is a person receiving a ticket when I pass by around 8am. I have known about this cop and I still was given a ticket. He had finished writing a ticket and visually gauged my speed. I didn't fight I just went to traffic school. There are cops on both sides of the 52 betwen the 805 and Santo Road just sitting with their radar guns during morning and evening rush hour periods. Jurisdiction (city, county, etc.): San Diego, California Speed Trap Location: Calle De Las Rosas Street Nearest Reference Point: Via Caballo Rojo Street GPS Coordinates: n/a Time of Day: AM Rush Hour Level of Enforcement: Some Type of Enforcement: Laser Date: 11/2007 There is often a speed trap heading Northeast bound on Calle De Las Rosas towards Rancho Penasquitos Blvd in the morning. You're coming up the hill and just as you get to the crest of the hill you're staring right at a radar gun. Similarly on the same street towards the bottom of the hill heading Southwest the cops also like to set up a speed trap there in the evening after work. Jurisdiction (city, county, etc.): San Diego, California Speed Trap Location: Bernardo Center Drive Nearest Reference Point: Dove Canyon Road GPS Coordinates: n/a Time of Day: AM Rush Hour Level of Enforcement: Some Type of Enforcement: Radar, Laser Date: 10/2007 Heading south/east on Bernardo Center Drive, before it becomes Carmel Valley Road, it crosses Dove Canyon where there is a school. The speed limit drops from 45 to 25 in the course of 1 block. I have seen Highway Patrol there several mornings in a row and was in fact stopped (waved down, really) after being lasered going 42 in this zone. However, it was well after school had started and there were No "children present". (I believe this is why I was let off with a warning). Beyond the next light at Winecreek the limit jumps to 50. Jurisdiction (city, county, etc.): San Diego, California Speed Trap Location: Carmel Mountain Road Nearest Reference Point: Interstate 15 GPS Coordinates: n/a Time of Day: Any time of day Level of Enforcement: Some Type of Enforcement: Radar, Laser Date: 8/2007 Motorcycle cops like to trap the northbound side of Carmel Mountain Road approximately 1 mile south of I-15. They will be hidden in the shadows with 2 or 3 motorcycle cops waiting with radar. The 40 MPH speed limit is fair due to having low density residential uses but is at the bottom of a hill and if you don't watch your downhill speed, you can easily be at 50 MPH even though only 40 MPH at the top of the hill. Police will hide on Golfcrest to Radar dirvers on Mission Gorge Rd. They also Radar drivers coming down the hill on Golfcrest, if you coast down the hill be careful, it is steep enough to cause you to exceed the speed limit. Governor is wide and there are few driveways, making it easy to go over the 30mph posted miles earlier. Motorcycle cops sit behind the curve near Gulfstrand. You can not see them until you round the bend and wham! There are at least 20 tix per day per the SDWeb police reports. Watchout! There are no comments from others for this speedtrap. Jurisdiction (city, county, etc.): San Diego, California Speed Trap Location: Fairmount Avenue Nearest Reference Point: Montezuma Road GPS Coordinates: n/a Time of Day: Any time of day Level of Enforcement: Some Type of Enforcement: Radar Date: 4/2007 For those northbound on Fairmount - Motorcycle cop will sit in the darkness under the bridge (Montezuma Rd) or will occasionally be hiding on the onramp from Montezuma to Fairmount. The center divider splits and there is an openning right after the 15 freeway over ramp. usually 2 motorcylce cops sit there when i come home which is about 2 to 3 PM. long stretch of highway, they can snag you before you see them. I've witnessed officers walk out to the middle of the road, put his hand up and pull cars over which is a very dangerous thing to do since 2 bicyclists have been killed there within the past 3 years.
